B of V Reviews: Gal Meets Glam

Julia Engel is a blogger whose aesthetic, refreshing content and impeccable smile has captivated over 1.2 million people on Instagram. Recently, her eye for exquisite dresses came to life for many of us who follow her with the launch of her Gal Meets Glam collection. Were you one of the many that set their alarms early on April 20th? Same girl same!

Julia began her blog, Gal Meets Glam, seven years ago. As the years have passed, so many of us have followed along her travels and adventures through the photographs her husband, Thomas Berolzheimer, captures so beautifully.

Julia began blogging in San Francisco while in college, but after deciding to focus full-time on building Gal Meets Glam, she and her teamed moved to Charleston.

Her site and feed are like a breath of fresh air, as well as a complete collage of a blogger's bucket list. And as her Instagram bio says, Julia is a "lover of all things feminine." So it was no surprise that when her first line was to debut, it would be an exclusive line of dresses.

I was more than just excited to shop this line because it was to feature designs in sizes 00 to 20! That is sadly, almost unheard of when it comes to such highly anticipated clothing lines. And it was reassuring that the plus size designs weren't different than the straight size designs (another one of my pet peeves)!

And so like many other fashionistas, I set my alarm to get up before the sun in order to snag the dress of my dreams!

Now, I should warn you, these dresses are not cheap. They run from about $130-200. I ended up choosing the lowest priced dress from the collection (my wallet was a bit relieved), but that definitely doesn't mean it was the least pretty because trust me, they are all simply stunning!

I chose the Carly. Although in almost every brand I am a 12-14, I ordered this dress in an 18. I was freaked out at first thinking it was going to be too big, but the measurements seemed accurate for my size. Plus the dress isn't an a-line and has buttons down the center front. If this were a couple of years ago, I would've been defensive and said, "no way am I buying a size 18!" But it's ridiculous because vanity sizing is just out of hand nowadays and I know that I am fabulous the way I am.

Anyway, I received my dress less than a week after ordering and immediately ran to try it on. It was quite snug at the chest area, as expected, because I am a size DD and my insulin pump clipped on my bra doesn't necessarily help. But I wanted to wear it because despite that, I felt pretty!

The gingham seersucker fabric is of great quality, as well as the thin navy belt that comes with the dress. I decided not to over stylize the dress, but I know that I will be able to wear it with so many different colors, bright and pale, fun shoes, flat and tall, and for various occasions, 4th of July and a garden wedding.

I hope to add more pieces from the Gal Meets Glam collection to my wardrobe soon! In fact, her next batch of beauties will be going on sale on May 15th! Be sure to follow Julia on Instagram and her site to stay informed about all of the exciting news expected from Gal Meets Glam!
