Day Trip to Carmel, California

September 2019 was a really stressful time for me and my family, but I had the chance to escape for just a few hours and pay a short visit to the coastal town of Carmel.

Our first stop, after driving through the curves and swerves on Corral de Tierra, was Earthbound Farms.

Earthbound Farms in Carmel Valley is a picturesque farm that has an "organic cafe, farm stand market, organic gardens, and seasonal events." And during the Fall, there is a lovely pumpkin patch perfect for that Instagram photo shoot.

The morning we were there, it was about 96 degrees and full of smiling enthusiastic families enjoying the sights.

We admired the pumpkin mountains, and furry friends people brought along while we drank some organic smoothies from the organic cafe.

I recommend checking out their calendar to find out about upcoming events perfect for a date or family outing.

After the farm, we drove through Carmel, passing The Barnyard and The Crossroads where I worked for an Interior Designer for almost 3 years.

A short drive later we were at Carmel Mission Basilica. I've passed by this mission several times but had never actually stopped to see it.

Depending on the day you visit, admission may be discounted. We were there on a Saturday afternoon during a wedding, so we paid less than expected. Unfortunately it also meant that we couldn't see the actual church from the inside, but there was still so much to see!

Apart from the serene spots to sit and admire the surroundings, there is so much to learn about within the museum portions of the Mission.

Even if your visit isn't for religious reasons, Carmel Mission Basilica is definitely a must-see place in Carmel, on the Central Coast in general.

Our final stop on our brief visit to Carmel was Carmel-by-the-Sea's downtown area. This area of Carmel is definitely a tourist spot, but so fun that you won't even care. There are many great mid-high end cafes, restaurants, and boutiques that will sure leave you wanting to come back before you even leave.

As I mentioned before, it was a very warm day, so we stopped at Carmel Bakery where the line was out on the sidewalk. Everyone was hurriedly grabbing an ice cream cone to cool down.

Once we were handed our cones, we continued on our way through downtown. It's fun just to people watch, dog watch, and car watch (people out here have the cutest dogs and the hottest cars).

Since we had other things to do on our Saturday, we kept it short and headed home just before 5.

Have you been to Carmel? Is there some place I should have included in my day trip?
