10 Questions with Instagram Bloggers: SassyRedLipstick

One fortunate night while on Instagram, I noticed Sarah Tripp posted on her stories that she would be opening up her busy schedule to answer some questions for a select amount of people. So what did I do when I saw this at almost midnight as I was already in bed with one eye closed and the second closely following? I shot up, turned my bedside lamp on and emailed the former San Francisco, now "Desert Money" Instagram queen immediately!

In 2018, I debuted the blog series, "10 Questions with Instagram Bloggers", and introduced you all to some pretty spectacular bloggers (Check it out here)! Later that Spring, I had the honor to connect with none other than Sarah Tripp from SassyRedLipstick! She is a huge inspiration to me and many other girls and women that have felt excluded from fashion in the past because we are not the norm in terms of size. She is beautiful, inside and out, and just a great example of a role model. (Plus, her designer bag and shoe collection is insane!)

Sarah is married to "rebellious" Robbie Tripp, author of "Create Rebellion." I had known about Sarah for a while when I had the chance to go to a TedxTalk event in my hometown, and Robbie happened to be one of the speakers! His talk about how "innovative and passionate Millennials will continue to change the world" was so intriguing, my sister and I still talk about it to this day!

(You can watch the talk here in Heavy's article, Robbie Tripp: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know, as well as learn a bit more about the wordsmith.)

Together, the power couple has created an empire that has provided them with hard earned successes that include major label campaigns, trips across the globe, and of course that cash money! Forbes even featured the couple in an article that discusses tips that they used to build their social media followings with lucrative results over the past 5 years.

But what has been the most fascinating aspect of it all is that as influential and "instafamous" they are, Sarah and Robbie are genuinely in love with each other and are total #relationshipgoals!

In the Summer of 2017, Robbie innocently and lovingly posted a photo with his gorgeous wife on a beach in Miami (again, #goals), and captioned it with a love letter to her overall beauty, her curves, her spirit and talent. I know I teared up when I read it and many couples admired this very public expression of love as well. Others were quick to judge and saw it in a negative light. That's the internet for you. Check out the post featured in the Daily Mail for yourself.

But the backlash had no affect on the hardworking couple. When interviewed by Women's Health, they explained that they were surprised by the response and excited that it was helping to get the message of body positivity out there.

For these reasons and more, I knew Sarah had to be the next person to be featured on Brunette of Vantes! Since many of us bloggers look up to her, I figured I would ask some questions that were geared toward that audience.

I can also relate to the fact that Robbie helps with Sarah's content. My boyfriend, Joey, (who I interviewed on Valentine's Day a few years ago) takes all of my photos for my blog. Some days he'll examine my outfit and say "I know exactly where we need to go for pictures!" I wanted insight on their tips for working as a couple successfully without it drowning out the actual relationship.

And finally, I wanted to introduce SassyRedLipstick to those 3 people out there who still have not heard about her or her work! Without further ado, here are 10 Questions with SassyRedLipstick!

1. Why did you start blogging?

"I've always had a love for fashion and personal style. I worked at Nordstrom throughout high school and loved it! All my paychecks just went back into funding my wardrobe, haha! I started my blog as a creative outlet to express my style but then it became so much more when I decided to focus on body positivity and helping curvy women feel confident in their own skin. It’s taken a lot of sweat and tears to get here but it’s also been a very rewarding journey."

2. My boyfriend has taken all of my pics for my blog. I know that Robbie takes a lot of your pictures. How has this affected/changed your relationship? Any tips you can give to an Instagram couple just starting their journey?

"Good for you both! Robbie and I love working together and feel lucky we get to spend so much time together. However, learning to work together in a professional setting with your partner can be tough! Robbie and I still have to remember to find a balance. It’s so fun to be able to share in each other's successes and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. My tip is to remember that you're lovers first and business partners second. Helping each other grow in all aspects is important, not just in your careers."

3. Are there brands/people that have asked to collaborate with you that you did not feel comfortable associating yourself with (definitely don’t need to name names)? How did you handle that?

"Great question! Yes, definitely. Not long ago there was a major blockbuster film being released and an agency reached out to help me promote it. I did not agree morally with the graphic sexual content in the film and knew that I would never see it. I declined that campaign immediately, even though it was good money at the time. I also don’t drink alcohol and frequently get offers to promote it. (I don’t judge anyone’s decisions to drink and have no problem being at social events where alcohol is served but it’s just a personal decision of mine.) I always say no to those campaigns even though they usually pay really well. It’s all about being true to yourself!"

"If you’re not authentic, then your followers have no reason to trust or connect with you."

4. What bloggers do you follow for inspiration?

"I’ve always loved Blair Eadie from Atlantic/Pacific. She has always been a huge inspiration to me style-wise and I’m convinced there’s not a look she can’t pull off. I also love following Gal Meets Glam. I followed her long before we moved to San Francisco and was actually able to meet her a couple weeks before she moved. She was really sweet, just like you see in her content. I love how she’s built such a beautiful brand."

5. If you were not a fabulous Instagram star, what would you be?

"Well, I got my degree in Advertising so I always assumed I’d be working at fashion-focused ad agency or a fashion brand. I always wanted to do something in the fashion industry so my career as a blogger has truly been a dream come true!"

6. What has been the most exciting collaboration of your career so far?

"I’ve had lots of exciting campaigns but I’d say working with Aerie has been the most fulfilling. Anything that allows me to promote my message of body positivity is exciting. I recently completed the Love the Swim You’re In campaign with Aerie for the second year and I look forward to it each time."

"Any time I can help women of all shapes and sizes realize they’re beautiful and sexy, it makes me so happy."

7. When you have multiple outfits to shoot, but no dressing room, what do you do?! (I know I’ve done Cirque du Soleil stunts in my backseat just to pull off a wardrobe change!)

"Haha you got it! The backseat change is a skill that people just don’t understand until they have to do it! I’ve done shoots where I shot 8 different outfits and changed in the backseat for each one. Blast the A/C, push the passenger seat forward, try your best not to let anyone see you through the window, and start changing!"

8. How do you relax or disconnect from social media?

"I don’t even know if I know what that feels like these days! I need to be better! Robbie and I have been so focused on building our brands for so long that we have gotten used to the early morning and late nights on our phones and laptops. It can get very exhausting and we always say that we need to find more balance. However, it always seems like a new campaign is popping up and we are back to the same old grind. When we do have some time to relax, we like to snuggle up in bed and watch Netflix with a bowl of ice cream."

9. What has been the most rewarding part of your journey as a body positive blogger?

"I received a message the other day from a Mom who said that her young daughter saw one of my swimsuit photos and said that I looked pretty. She told me that she was so happy her daughter has a role model who is curvy and shows that women can be beautiful in all shapes and sizes. That meant so much to me. Any time I get messages that say “you inspired me to wear a bikini to the beach today” or see a comment that says “she looks just like me”, it makes my day."

"I never had curvy role models in the fashion industry so I am so happy that is changing."

10. What words of encouragement would you offer to a girl struggling to feel beautiful in her own skin?

"Work on loving yourself a little more each day. The self-love journey takes a while and is full of ups and downs but it is so worth it in the end. Speak kind words to yourself in the mirror. Don’t hate your soft tummy, celebrate it! Accept it! Understand that there is only one you and you are so valuable. Stop being your own worst critic and be your number one fan!"

Thank you again to Sarah and Robbie Tripp for making my blogging dreams come true! I'm honored to have been able to share a piece of their story with all of my lovely followers!
