B of V Reviews: New York & Company's MYA Curvy Jean

One of my favorite retailers of all time is New York & Company. My love for shopping there probably started when I was a kid and my big sister worked at the local mall at the New York & Company store. I remember her getting glammed up for work and wearing the most beautiful colors and structured pieces. My mom and I would visit my sister at work and I would get lost among the jewelry, the velour tracksuits (it was the late 90’s), and I couldn’t wait to shop here one day!

As a plus size woman, sometimes the brands we aspire to shop are not exactly ones that cater to us. But New York & Company is different. I am always surprised by the trendy collections that fit so well on my non-commercial figure.

One thing I had not tried from New York & Company were their jeans. Now, I don’t usually wear jeans, so when New York & Company approached me to ask if I would try their latest Mya Curvy Jeans, I was hesitant but super curious as well. I was hesitant because “curvy” jeans don’t usually work for my figure. I am top heavy and I carry my weight around my midsection. This means that when jean shopping, I have to size up to fit my waist, and that means that the rest of the jean, the crotch, butt, and leg is baggy. And I’ve met many others that have a similar story of frustration when shopping for jeans.

Once I learned a bit more about the Mya Curvy Jean, I was excitedly waiting for my package to arrive! The Mya Curvy Jeans that I received are the High-Waisted Super Skinny Ankle style in Moonlight Blue. These jeans have a wonderfully sculpting fabric composed of cotton, rayon, spandex, and repreve (a synthetic fiber containing recycled materials). Although I don’t have an hourglass figure, these jeans are designed for just that, but they definitely don’t discriminate. The stretch no-gap waistband stays in place to make sure that the I can strut my stuff without having to worry about pulling my jeans up constantly or them riding up.

Because jean sizing is difficult for me, New York & Company was generous enough to send me both the size 14 and 16. The 14 actually fit me to perfection. I don’t have a curvy bottom so the tiny bit of extra fabric was expected, but the length (27.5” inseam) was just right for me (I’m 5’6”). And you know I love me a pocket! The Mya Curvy Jean has what they call “Power Pockets” that help slim and smooth. I can tell you from first hand experience that the smoothing comes in handy, especially when tucking a blouse into the jeans.

Paired with the Mya Curvy Jeans, I am proudly wearing a piece from Eva Mendes’ Party Collection with New York & Company, the Lucretia Blouse. You can never go wrong with a crisp white button up, especially one with a twist. The Lucretia Blouse has a beautiful neckline with a classic crisp collar. Not only does it look beautiful with jeans, but I can wear it with a beautiful skirt or slacks to an elevated event.

Do you shop at New York & Company? Have you tried the Mya Curvy Collection yet? Why not! I’d love to know your experience, how they fit, and how much you love them!

Thanks for stopping by!
