I love fashion, obviously. And as a plus-sized woman, it’s very exciting to see the growing number of labels introducing trendy and chic clothing in extended sizes (blog post listing some of these brands coming soon). But what about just good old basic wardrobe essentials? Now that, I know, is hard to find in my size. Sometimes I want to just rock a tee shirt, jeans, and some sneakers. But being a girl with a heavier midsection, it’s difficult to find basics that allow me to feel comfortable without having to throw on extra camouflaging layers. Who feels me?
But thanks to the power of social media and networking, I had the chance to combine creative forces with Shannon, a San Jose Photographer, and Ori, a contemporary apparel line, to showcase some of their pieces.
Ori is an up & coming clothing brand that caters to a wide range of sizes beginning at size 10 up to size 32. Ori’s mission is “to make beautiful clothing that empowers you-at any size-to look and feel your very best, every single day.” How could you not get behind that!?
Something key that Ori is proud of is that they don’t make clothing in different sizes based off of their smallest pattern like many generic, commercial clothing companies. Ori bases their products’ cut off of a size 18-20 sample in order to provide a more comfortable and well fitted piece for a wider consumer range.
And not only does the clothes fit better, but it’s cute and versatile as well!
So mid-March, Shannon and I met up near San Jose City Hall to shoot some of these staple items in their natural habitat: out and about wherever the wearer takes them!
The Perfect Tee in Copen Blue – also available in White and Dark Slate - $28
The Perfect Tee is just that, the perfect tee to get you out of the house and on your way. Whether you’re rocking some boyfriend jeans and flip flops to pick up dinner at the grocery store, or a more trendy pleated skirt and heels for brunch with the in-laws, the perfect tee can be the canvas for you to build the cutest Spring outfits, no matter your day’s itinerary!
The Crop Tee - ¾ Sleeve in Galapagos Green – also available in Atlantic Deep and Flint - $34
The ¾ tee is like the original perfect tee, except I could totally see this tee being great to include in your office wardrobe. I paired it with some high waist wide-leg pants and wedge heels to show how you can dress it up. It’s a great addition to your basics wardrobe as well because it’s not the same cut as every other tee you may already own.
The Embroidered French Terry Sweatshirt in Rainbow – Good Luck and Cactus style also available - $68
Ori’s sweatshirts are probably my favorite item out of the bunch (and I don’t own very many sweatshirts)! Not only are they so comfy you’ll want to snuggle up on the couch all day, but the different colors include a uniquely adorable embroidery detail you'll want to leave the house to show off!
I opted for the colorful rainbow on the blue sweatshirt. I chose this style because I’d be able to style it with, literally, any and all colors of the rainbow!
On this particular day, I chose to keep it simple with some cuffed jeans and hot pink slip-on flats. It’s a look appropriate for your afternoon class or for a movie date with mom.
The French Terry Wrap Dress – available in Black, Dark Slate, and Biking Red - $86
The one item from the Ori line that I have not had the chance to try on and rock like nobody’s business is the wrap dress. I love me a simple dress that I can wear working around the house or on a family outing to the aquarium. It’s so cute and currently on my wish list!
Have you tried any of Ori’s pieces? Which one was your fav? If you haven’t which items are on your wish list?
Thank you Ori for the clothing! I am honored to have been a small part of your journey! I can’t wait for more!
And of course, thanks to Shannon for having such a beautiful vision and making me feel confident throughout the shooting process.
Thanks for reading!
