Pastels shouldn't be strictly for babies and grandmas or Easter Sunday and weddings. Read a few of my tips to wearing pastels this season as I wander through one of San Francisco's most famous landmarks, the Palace of Fine Arts.
Pastels are always a difficult trend for most of us. How do you wear pastels without looking like a Ladurée macaron? What do you pair with a pastel piece without looking like you just ripped the wallpaper off of the hallway at a bed-and-breakfast?
First, who cares about following trends and following the crowd? Yes, you may get looks, but most likely looks from people who wish they could pull off a stellar outfit as good as you!
Second, avoid cardigans that make people wonder where the rest of the Golden Girls went. Instead, shop simple, sleek pieces that can become a versatile piece of your wardrobe. The lilac suede moto jacket from Old Navy that I'm wearing is a great example of a modern pastel piece. It's badass enough to wear on a night out or over a feminine shift dress you wear to the office.
Opting for a lighter denim can help pull a pastel ensemble together.
A lighter denim in light blue or white can create a cool look that takes your Spring wardrobe to a fun new place. Pick up a denim jacket or a pair of boyfriend jeans to take your look from Sunday Best to everyday casual!
A pop of color is a must!
Again, you don't have to wear anything you don't want to, but personally, I think a pop of color can complete an outfit, pastel or not.
A pop of color can be anything from a hot pink lipstick to an electric blue handbag. I chose these suede like flats from Old Navy in one of the year's most popular colors, "Mellow Yellow!"
